Preparing for life through sport

In August 2008, Newbattle Community High School became one of the SFA's (Scottish Football Association) new Schools of Football.

Building on the considerable success of our Football Academy in S2-S6, the School of Football is part of a national strategy to develop Scotland's emerging football talent.

Staff from the Scottish FA and the Scottish Institute of Sport will work closely with twelve youngsters (initially in S1) identified as having a particular talent for football. These young people have been selected following a rigorous series of interviews, physical tests, observations and references from teachers and coaches.

Each pupil will follow a carefully structured individualised training plans which combines football skills; general fitness; and the rest of their school timetable (which will be slightly modified).

The overall aim of the School of Football project is to "recruit the young football talent at age 12 and provide an individualised programme that will enhance the young player’s educational, physical, psychological and social development".
