S2, all boys and girls take one period per week of Peak Performance. One of the many options available through the PE Department is the Dance Academy. As of 2007, the Dance Academy also became available as an option in S3, where pupils can continue their progress from S2, leading to an Intermediate 1 or Intermediate 2 award.

Newbattle Dance Academy is open to all S2 pupils who are interested in:

1 hour of Dance every week for a year.
Your own Dance Academy kit (small charge)
Working on teacher led and self choreographed dances.
Working in groups and on individual tasks.
Learning how to choreograph dance, pick music and themes.
Investigate a variety of styles of dance e.g. Contemporary, Scottish, Hip hop etc.
Dances performed for school events and at Midlothian dance festivals.
Participation in theatre dance workshops
Delivered by Mrs Gill and Miss Wanstall.

When you succeed in S2, you will have the chance to move into The Dance Academy in S3 with 3 periods a week and a chance to gain an Intermediate 1 award!
